Incalculable human and material destruction was caused by the atomic bomb
that exploded 580 meters above the center of Hiroshima at 8:15 am. on August 6, 1945.
It is extraordinary difficult for the mind to comprehend the accurate and detailed data
available on all the aspects of this destruction, since it was an unprecedented disaster
in the history of mankind. The city was annihilated in one instant, costing countless
number of precious lives among the people of Hiroshima.
The damage due to the nuclear weapon was utterly indescribable, unequal to that caused by
natural calamities or conventional weapons. Radiation has caused immeasurable effects,
continuously threatening the lives of exposed survivors.
This booklet, a collection of basic information regarding the atomic bomb
damage upon Hiroshima, was compiled in the hope that it may serve to give some
understanding of this disastrous event.
